Overview

LP10 was a passport-generating web application created for the Lagos Photo Festival in 2019. With the festival theme being "PASSPORTS," we developed a digital solution that allowed attendees to create personalized digital passes that served as their entry tickets to the event. The Lagos Photo Festival is Nigeria's first international photography festival, and our solution needed to match its creative and artistic nature while solving a practical problem. The Lagos Photo Festival hosts various events including exhibitions, workshops, artist presentations, and large-scale outdoor prints displayed throughout the city. These activities aim to reclaim public spaces and engage the general public with diverse stories of Africa.

Challenge

We faced an extremely tight timeline of less than two weeks to design and develop a fully functional product. I needed to quickly assemble a reliable team that could work effectively under pressure. The solution had to reflect the artistic nature of the photography festival while being practical enough for everyday use. Additionally, the system needed to handle thousands of users generating unique passports and ensure these digital passes would be accessible to attendees on the day of the event.

Solution

I assembled a three-person team consisting of myself (handling Product Design and Frontend), Theophilus Ighalo (Backend), and Alade Ameen (Frontend API Integration). We created a streamlined web application with an intuitive user interface that guided users through the passport creation process. Users could upload their photos and enter personal details to generate visually appealing digital passports that reflected the festival's artistic theme. After early testing revealed users might lose their digital passes, we added an automatic email feature that sent the completed passport to users for safekeeping.

Outcomes

LP10 proved to be a resounding success with over 2,000 people using the application to generate their festival passports. The festival welcomed more than 500 attendees, all using our digital passes for entry. We received enthusiastic feedback from both the organizers and attendees, validating our approach and implementation. The project also strengthened professional relationships that led to future collaborations under my studio, Minimalyst (now DULA Studio). Despite the challenging timeline and requirements, we delivered a solution that enhanced the festival experience while providing practical functionality for organizers to track attendance.
